The Bukit Peninsula is situated at the South-East of Bali and is washed by the open ocean. There are a district of South Kuta and Pecatu village on it, Uluwatu Temple is situated next to them.

Parking at the entrance to the temple complex

The complex includes three shrines, the oldest of them was founded in the 10th century. The entrance gate is decorated with intricate carvings, Ganesh statues are on the sides of the it, they guard the sanctuary from evil spirits. There are pagodas on steep cliffs, falling down the ocean on a 90 meters, keeping the memory of the saints who lived here..

Before the beginning of the 20th century only members of the Royal dynasty could pray here, now access is allowed for everyone, but for tourists only at a certain time. At sunset local artists compete for representation, the plot of which scenes from the sacred Hindu books Bhagavad Gita, but we didn't see the performance we had other plans for the evening. But we play with monkeys a lot, there are a great variety of them here..

And we saw a cotton tree.. Look at this - cotton-wool can be found not only on the cotton bush :-)

And we made friends with the locals, they ae open and friendly..

Interesting and beautiful place. If you will be on Bali don't miss it out. In addition - our short video:
