The island of Penang was named as the Malay name of the Areca palms that grow here in abundance. The center of the same name state, occupying the island and the adjacent coast of the Malay Peninsula, called Seberang Perai. Both parts are connected by two bridges. No word about the continental part, because we have traveled only the island, where we spent 10 days in January 2017. We have had Spa treatments there- swimming and sunbathing.

Penang Island

George Town suburbs

Diving near Penang is none, the sea is quite dirty and muddy, so those wishing to dive should travel to far islands, it takes 2-3 hours one way by boat. But there is the same picture there, in general, there is nothing special to see under water – ordinary corals and fish. But a curious traveler may find something interesting right on Penang Island (besides beaches). We talk about the old residential quarter of George Town (the state capital) - museums, Botanical gardens, the cable car to the top of the highest mountain of the island (821 meters above sea level! :)), garden of orchids, garden of spices, bird park... Yes, so many things are there, according to various estimates, there are from 1000 to 3000 sights and it is impossible to see everything in a short time. We even didn't try to, so be content with very little :) Click on any interactive icon on the map below and let's go.
